L.A. Pai celebrates recipients of the Saidye Bronfman Award: Kye-Yeon Son, 2011

Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des Arts du Canada celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Saidye Bronfman Award. We are thrilled that Pamela Ritchie has received the honour this year. And we celebrate L. A. Pai Gallery artists who have received this honour in years past.

2011 recipient Kye-Yeon Son RCA, M.F.A. 1984 (Indiana University, Bloomington, USA), teaches at NSCAD, Halifax since 1995. Her work is included in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre.

The Canada Council video can be found below.

Kye-Yeon Son considers vessels are highly versatile instruments for expressing emotions and ideas. The positive and negative spaces of her recent branch vessels symbolize resilience and spiritual potential that parallels the human cycle of growth, death, and renewal.
