Gayane Avetisyan Collaboration Appears on the Red Carpet at the 97th Academy Awards

In a collaboration with North American jewellery company Bixlers, Gayane Avetisyan's cloisonné enamel work stars in a custom brooch and cufflinks worn by fellow Montreal citizen and Oscar nominee Patrice Vermette, production designer and art director. The unique two-piece jewellery set, created in collaboration with Vermette, was unveiled on the red carpet of the 97th Academy Awards presentation in Los Angeles.

Named “Epic Sands Custom Brooch and Cufflinks,” the set was created to celebrate Vermette’s nomination for Best Production Design for the film, “Dune Part 2.” In addition, the jewelry set represents the film’s themes of “multiculturalism, legacy, and ecological consciousness,” Bixlers said in a statement.

Based on Vermette’s stories of traveling through Armenia and the modernist architecture he encountered, Sporn decided to use an enameling finish. The technique dates back centuries and is rarely used in North America jewelry making today.

To do this, Bixlers discovered Gayane Avetisyan, a Montreal-based, Armenian-born jeweler dsigner who specializes in cloisonné enameling, an ancient decorative technique that is made with transparent vitreous enamel applied in small enclosures (called cells or "cloisonné") made with thin metal.

This provided the finishes touches on the hand-crafted jewels that were revealed to the world on one of the biggest stages on the planet.

Congratulations, Gayane!
