swallowtail on bone

Swallowtail:Vertebrae Glass Sculpture by Gayle Church

Swallowtail:Vertebrae. Pate de verre glass casting of a swallowtail butterfly with glass frit coloration that flits above a vertebrae bone. 10"L x 5"W x 11 ½”H, 2025.

The Schaus swallowtail butterfly is an endangered species native to South Florida and the Florida Keys. It has been listed as endangered since 1976 and is one of the rarest butterflies in the United States. The vertebrae is from a moose that was found by a older gentleman named Tom. He has a remote camp and collected some bones for me from the remains of a wolf kill.
