June 23-July 15: Aurélie Guillaume; Les gens sont fous

Aurélie Guillaume is a contemporary jeweller, enamellist and illustrator residing in Montréal. She currently works as a studio artist and an instructor at École de Joaillerie de Montréal, where she first earned her diploma in jewellery design and metalsmithing. After completing her diploma, she went on to receive her BFA at the NSCAD University in Halifax. Upon graduation, her work was selected as the winner of L.A. Pai Gallery’s12th National Student Jewellery Competition in Canada, where she will have a solo show in the summer of 2016.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including SOFA Chicago, 2015, SNAG Boston, 2015, and through the Bavarian Craft Council during Munich Jewellery week in Germany, 2016. Her work celebrates the history of enamelling and its longstanding tradition of storytelling. Using these traditional techniques, she is reviving the medium through a contemporary context fueled by street art, comics, pop art and counterculture.
